Make sure you keep 22 April clear in your diaries for this year’s UN Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI) Africa Market Event, which focuses on: ‘Harnessing African insurance markets to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals’.
The summit will be held on 22 April, both live in Nairobi, Kenya and also online to allow for participants from across the continent and beyond.
Organised by east African insurer ICEA Lion, the first African insurer to sign up to the PSI initiative, speakers from across the world will lead the conversation before delegates have an opportunity to join five breakout sessions. These will cover:
- Building resilient cities and communities
- Closing the risk protection gap
- Sustainable food and agriculture systems
- Key sustainability challenges and opportunities for the life and health insurance industry
- Sustainable underwriting in non-life insurance business.
The aim is to emerge with concrete actions that insurers across Africa can use to incorporate sustainable development goals into their company culture and strategy going forward. Speakers will be led by Butch Bucani, programme leader of the UN Environment Programme’s PSI initiative; Caesar Mwangi, group CEO at ICEA Lion Group; and Mark Napier, CEO of FSD Africa.
There will be fireside chats with leading UN figures, an online pulse survey on the key sustainability challenges and opportunities, as well as panel discussions with leading African insurance voices.
Key to the day will be the launch of the Nairobi Declaration – a collective statement of commitment by African CEOs to strengthen the African insurance industry’s contribution to achieving the UN’s sustainable development goals.
